(Dec. 8, 2008) -- The gross combined weight rating -- the weight of loaded vehicle and what it’s towing -- of the heavy-duty version of the Chevy Workhorse cab chassis has been boosted from 17,600 pounds to 20,000 pounds, while the gross vehicle weight rating -- the top weight allowed for vehicle and payload -- has been increased from 14,050 to 14,200 pounds, giving it best-in-class payload capacity.

(Dec. 3, 2008) -- The Avanti (which means “forward” in Italian) has been in production since October and started shipping to dealerships in November. It is the first motorhome to be built on the W16D front-engine diesel platform from Workhorse Custom Chassis. Leading edge EGR technology makes the MaxxForce 5 a “clean diesel” engine that improves both emission levels and fuel efficiency. That and the relatively light weight of the engine and chassis both contribute to the Avanti’s fuel economy and payload capacity.

(Dec. 3, 2008) -- As American car owners switch out their gas-guzzlers for smaller vehicles, many recreational vehicle companies are creating lighter weight products that can be towed by those smaller cars. Jayco, Dutchmen, Forest River and Crossroads RV are just four of the companies showing new lightweight products at the Recreation Vehicle Industry Association's annual trade show.

(Nov. 3, 2008) -- Winnebago Industries introduces the first Class A motorhome built on a Sprinter chassis with a Mercedes Benz diesel engine. The Via features an industry-leading fuel efficiency that's estimated at 15-plus miles per gallon. Despite its compact 25-foot length, the Via offers impressive roominess with a front slideout room, a private bathroom area, fully equipped galley, and sleeping accommodations that are truly unique. In the rear, twin beds offer a flex bed concept that is easily converted into a queen bed for a larger continuous sleeping space. Additional sleeping space is also found up front with the new studio loft.

(Dec. 2, 2008) -- Fleetwood Enterprises’ RV Group today announced the unveiling of its first-ever Fleetwood Hybrid motorhome concept vehicle during National RV Trade Show in Louisville, Ky. Built on the ecoFRED, a hybrid electric power train system chassis from Freightliner Custom Chassis Corporation, Fleetwood Hybrid features increased fuel economy up to 42 percent and can be re-fueled at any diesel fuel station.

(Dec. 1, 2008) -- Kelly L. Rose, chairman of the board of EverGreen Recreational Vehicles, LLC, announced the introduction of a "green team" to launch a new line of Ever-Lite fully composite, lightweight travel trailers and fifth wheels. The RVs will be manufactured from their facilities in Elkhart County, Ind. Ever-Lite travel trailers and fifth wheels will be build of a wood-free, all-composite sidewall, floor and roof construction process utilizing the company's ComposiTek -- a lightweight, green material that is completely free of formaldehyde and other volatile organic compounds.

(Nov. 25, 2008) -- In addition to the Allegro 36QSA floorplan, Tiffin has unveiled a 43-foot luxury tag-axle Allegro Bus floorplan with a combination of two popular features: front kitchen plus bath-and-a-half. The new quad-slide 36QSA joins five other Allegro floorplans featuring major improvements for 2009, including 6 inches of additional ceiling height to 7 feet, more spacious cabinetry above and below counters, improved placements for the LCD TVs, larger windows, 22-inch wheels and a windshield shade replacing curtains. The base retail price of the 36QSA is $185,000.

(Nov. 21, 2008) -- Coachmen RV Group has made towing easier than ever with its new M-Series travel trailer that takes ultralights to a new level of utility for any RV buyer, even the first-time buyer. The M-Series, which started to ship this month, includes three floorplans that start around 3,000 pounds base weight, and two floorplans starting under 5,000 pounds.

(Nov. 20, 2008) -- The newest addition to the CrossRoads product line is designed for easy towing by today’s small SUV’s and crossover vehicles. The aluminum framed units are a full 8 feet wide, and range from 19 feet to 30 feet in length. The “showstopper” is the 30 foot, full length slide, bunkhouse model; weighing just 3600 pounds, complete with options.

(Nov. 20, 2008) -- American Recreational Vehicles, based in Detroit, introduces a new type of toyhauler, the Way Cool Hauler. The Way Cool Hauler RV features an exterior garage area where a second detachable toy trailer carries a car, Jet Ski, boat, motorcycle or ATV etc. Recreational enthusiasts who have heavier toys such as boats or cars have had to take two vehicles, one to tow the RV, the second to tow the boat or car to their favorite vacation/event.
