(Dec. 31, 2008) -- When the Good Sam Club started a discussion about awarding an RVer of the year each year, beginning with 2008, no one had to think too hard to decide where that honor should go. It went to Richard Daniels, a Georgia man whose travels introduced him to a dog and whose heart was so big he decided to help homeless animals in addition to giving that stray a good home.

(Dec. 30, 2008) -- A total of 6,000 new units were shipped to dealers in November compared to 21,500 for the same month last year. For the year, 231,400 units were shipped in the first 11 months, compared to 331,000 in 2007 -- a 30.1 percent decline. A total of 800 motorhomes were shipped last month.

(Dec. 30, 2008) -- The 2009 SuperShow will break the record for both manufacturer's space and supplier's booth space. "We will have more suppliers' booths than ever before and a record amount of manufacturer space," said Marketing Director David Kelly. "With the addition of new entertainment and more seminars, we're anticipating record crowds this year. We're also renewing the two-day pass so the public will have two full days to see everything at the SuperShow at no additional cost."

(Dec. 19, 2008) -- “Auctions fascinate consumers. They’re not only entertaining and fun, but also a great place to buy and sell goods and assets,” said NAA President Randy Wells. “For many, auctions can be intimidating and confusing at times. The goal of Auction Answers is to clear up much of the confusion surrounding auctions, such as terminology and its process. We want every bidder to be prepared to bid on auction day and feel comfortable when they raise their bid paddle.”

(Dec. 19, 2008) -- The RV Learning Center is inviting warranty administrators, other RV service professionals, and their managers to attend a free 30-minute web seminar to introduce the new warranty administrator certification program Jan. 9 at 3 p.m. EST. Another web seminar takes place Feb. 3 at 3 p.m. EST and focuses on the service writer/advisor certification program.

(Dec. 18, 2008) -- The Alliance seeks to develop one or more manufacturing and prototype development centers in the United States, which will be shared by Alliance members. Developing the capability to mass manufacture advanced battery cells is anticipated to require an investment of $1 to 2 billion over five years. Lithium ion battery cell manufacture is heavily subsidized in many countries. The Alliance hopes to level the playing field.

(Dec. 15, 2008) -- Congressional representatives need to hear from their constituents, Molino said, so all dealership’s and their employees are vital to this effort. RVDA sent letters to President-elect Barack Obama and Secretary of the Treasury Henry Paulson with the important message that banks and other financial institutions receiving aid under the Troubled Assets Relief Program (TARP) and other initiatives need to make consumer loans available for RVs on an equal basis with loans for automobiles, educational expenses, and purchases with credit cards. "Your letters and e-mails on this issue will also raise the industry’s visibility in Washington," Molino said.

(Dec. 11, 2008) -- Despite declines in RV shipments and reduced sales forecasts due to the tightest credit conditions in several decades and the crisis in consumer confidence, exhibitors were optimistic about the industry’s future at the National RV Show, held Dec. 2 to 4 in Louisville,Ky.

(Dec. 9, 2008) -- The Recreational Park Trailer Industry Association keeps track of units shipped by its membership. And shipment numbers are off by about 22 percent so far this year. In 2007 shipments amounted to 9,000 units. Through September of this year there had been 5,800 units shipped. The historic high for shipments occurred just two years ago when 10,100 park trailers rolled out of factories.

(Dec. 9, 2008) -- The Pennsylvania RV and Camping Education Foundation has awarded two scholarships to individuals beginning their training at the National School of RV Park Campground Management at Oglebay Resort. Nance Glantz, from Four Seasons at Raystown Lake, and Denise Jones will both receive $500 to go toward tuition.

(Dec. 3, 2008) -- Traffic on Day 2 of the show is expected to be the same, if not more, according to exhibitors. Wednesday's figures will be released Thursday morning. However, most supplier exhibitors continue to indicate that traffic is steady, but the slower pace enables them to have better quality conversations with other attendees.
