WYOMING, Mich. -- Compass Chemicals, which makes private label cleaners and sanitation products, announced a new program designed to drive repeat traffic to RV dealerships.
The company began offering RV dealers the opportunity to add a coupon to the label of any of its product purchased by the dealership for resale to consumers. The coupon can feature any offer the dealer wishes. Some examples include:
- Buy one gallon and get a free package of toilet paper
- Promoting RV shows
- Discounts on refilling the bottle
- Bringing the empty bottle back for $200 off the price of a new RV
The coupon doesn't peel off, which means buyers can't remove it without purchasing the product. There is no extra charge for printing the coupons, and dealers view a proof of the design before the coupons are printed.
Compass Chemicals owner Mark Leys said he thought of the idea while on vacation. "I was looking for a way to sell more products that would also help RV dealers by enticing customers to come back and buy product from them," he explained.
After intitial testing in key markets around the country, Leys said Compass Chemicals is ready to launch the program nationwide. "We discovered that RV dealers who took advantage of the label program reordered more often, sold the product at higher prices and enjoyed faster turns," he explained. "Dealers still have the perogative to sell the same products that their competitors do down the street. But, several dealers told us our products and labeling program were so successful that they have replaced the name brand products with dealership's own branded product line."
The company also produces starter kits which dealers have been offering to people who buy new and used RVs. Some of the private-labeled chemicals are included in the kit and many dealers have opted to put coupons on those bottles as well. In fact, the company sold 9,000 starter kits this year featuring products that have coupons added to the labels.
"Dealer cost for starter kits range from $18 to $40, which are fully loaded with products. But by putting coupons on the products inside, the dealer knows the customer will not just use what's in the starter kit. He will come back to the dealership to redeem the coupon," said Leys. "The response to our coupon program has been overwhelmingly positive."
