(June 30, 2008) -- Real gross domestic product (GDP) rose a stronger-than-expected 0.4 percent in April following two months of decline, with output down 0.2 percent in March and 0.3 percent in February. The strength was relatively broadly based with output in both goods-producing and service-producing industries up 0.4 percent in the month.

(June 30, 2008) -- Those independent adventurers are a boon for mom-and-pop businesses on Alaska’s highways, said Scott Reisland, who owns and operates Denali Grizzly Bear Resort and RV Park with his family. He’s seeing up to 40 percent more business from German-speaking Europeans, a group known for “rubbing shoulders with real Alaskans,” he said. “They are good for small business. They rent RVs, they stay at small campgrounds, the shop in small shops,” Reisland said.

(June 30, 2008) -- Gulf Haven Campground has undergone several facelifts over the past three decades. Before Hurricane Camille, the site was a small motel serving residents and visitors of the coast. It reopened as a beachfront RV park, but Katrina changed that too. Hurricane Katrina destroyed the RV park, the property was utilized as FEMA trailer site. Something residents weren't too happy about.

(June 30, 2008) -- Under the proposed ordinance, as amended, it shall be unlawful for any person to park or store a special vehicle in any part of the front yard, within 11 feet of the curb line and within 10 feet of a structure located on an adjoining lot. It is also unlawful for people to sleep in an RV parked on private property for more than seven days.

(June 27, 2008) -- According to officials, a fire broke out at Bish's RV at 7:52 p.m. Fire personnel arrived on the scene and found smoke coming from the service area. They found a garbage can burning and they quickly extinguished it. There were multiple RV trailers in the service area being worked on. There was smoke damage to most of the trailers.

Smith, Fleetwood's president and chief executive officer, told analysts on a conference call Thursday that the company has in recent weeks dropped its workforce by about 17 percent to just under 7,000, sold its folding trailer division, raised $39 million by issuing new shares, and made plans to mortgage some of its assets as a way of getting into shape as the economy crawls along.

(June 27, 2008) -- Personal consumer expenditures rose a stronger-than-expected 0.8 percent in May following an upwardly revised 0.4 percent gain in April (originally reported as up 0.2 percent). The strength was attributable to a surge in personal income, which soared 1.9 percent, a much larger gain than the 0.4 percent expected by financial markets and reflecting some spillover effect from the tax rebate checks.

(June 27, 2008) -- Campers Inn just acquired the real estate assets of the former Newcastle RV in Byron, Ga. That becomes the dealership’s fifth location on the eastern seaboard, but President Jeff Hirsch said he’s still looking for other opportunities. “We are actively seeking dealers who may be looking to exit the business or who wish they could be a part of a greater influence in their industry," he said.
