(Jan. 31, 2008) -- "While there are pockets of the nation in recession (Michigan, Indiana, New York, New Jersey, Silicon Valley to name a few), there is not yet a national recession. Nor will there be a recession unless the decline in labor market activity intensifies and spreads to more parts of the country. Data through December suggest that is not the case."

(Jan. 31, 2008) -- Fourth-quarter spending was able to hold up in the face of softer labor markets, elevated energy prices and declining housing markets. However, the moderation in real expenditures in December indicates that spending momentum weakened heading into the first quarter of 2008.

Lower year-over-year travel trailer sales reflected the soft industry market, as well as our downsizing of production facilities and elimination of certain product offerings.

Wegge contends that the Internet is a good tool for dealers to use in educating and serving consumers in their primary market areas. However, dealers who sell units online at deeply discounted rates undermine traditional dealers and further burden the industry's service capacity.
