(Nov. 30, 2008) -- The Federal Emergency Management Agency is spending $28 million annually to store travel trailers and mobile homes at five Mississippi sites while the agency determines whether they'll be reused or sold as scrap. It could be as long as 2011, based on renewal options for leases on the land, before FEMA decides what to do with all of the trailers and mobile homes.

(Nov. 30, 2008) -- The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency has launched an investigation into the potential health risks of formaldehyde use in pressed-wood products and is seeking public input. EPA is asking interested parties to submit comments, information and data to determine the extent of the problem and what to do about it. In addition to a 60-day public comment period, the federal agency has scheduled five public meetings in Research Triangle Park, N.C., Portland, Ore., Chicago, Dallas and Washington, D.C., to obtain more input.

(Nov. 28, 2008) -- Last year, more than 1,000 show attendees attended the Network Fest, where they were introduced to over two dozen RV-C compliant devices (including awnings, generators, electronic controls, levelers and heaters, to name a few) from 14 vendors -- all networked together on a common wiring harness. Attendees were able to observe the results of data signals being broadcast from a central panel to the various devices, controlling their functions and interoperability.

As more RV businesses are tying in to the national Go RVing message with customized spin-off ads, registered Go RVing tie-in program participants will be able to download new “Go Affordably. (Nov. 28, 2008) -- An economic downturn affecting what is known as “the RV capital of the world” is not new. And according to indicators, so far, it’s not as bad as the downturn Elkhart weathered 30 years ago. Wholesale RV shipments turned lower over the last year and a half as gas prices skyrocketed and the credit crisis took hold. But shipments this year are expected to remain higher than 2001, the most recent low point.

(Nov. 28, 2008) -- Coachmen Industries, Inc. (COA:Coachmen Industries today announced that it would resume its common stock repurchase plan that had been previously authorized by its board of directors. The company said it will fund the program with available cash and will repurchase shares in the open market or in private transactions, based on market conditions and other factors. The plan will be effective through March 31, 2009.

(Nov. 26, 2008) -- Carriage RV Company announced today that its preliminary sales figures showed the company posted an increase in sales of more than 10 percent during fiscal year 2008, which closes today. The manufacturer of high-end travel trailers and fith wheels attributed the increase to having the right products in the right markets, and in having a loyal, supportive sales force.

(Nov. 26, 2008) -- Several Texas campgrounds that cater to winter visitors are already booked up for the 2008-2009 winter camping season, and many others are filling up quickly, according to Texas Association of Campground Owners. “Winter reservations for campgrounds and RV resorts in Texas are as strong as they’ve ever been,” said Brian Schaeffer, executive director. He said Canadians, in particular, are flocking to the Lone Star State in record numbers, largely because of the relative strength of the Canadian dollar and because of the relatively low cost of spending the winter in Texas parks as opposed to parks in other pricier Sunbelt destinations, such as Florida and California.

(Nov. 26, 2008) -- Shipments from RV manufacturers to dealers fell 52.5 percent in October, according to figures released by the RV Industry Association today. A total of 13,500 new units were shipped to dealers last month, down from 28,400 units shipped in October 2007. For the year, 225,400 units were shipped to dealers, compared to 309,500 for the first 10 months of 2007.

(Nov. 26, 2008) -- Elkhart-based Dexter Axle, a subsidiary of the English company Tomkins PLC, will add 153,000 square feet at 410 S. Seventh St. in Albion. Construction of the $3.4 million project is scheduled to start this month and is expected to be completed by June. The 114 new jobs will pay $3 million in total annual salaries, Dexter's application for a tax abatement says.
